Author Lee Gambin is not only a talented and gifted writer, he knows plenty about films, their history, and behind the scenes trivia , making his books packed full of enough knowledge to satisfy any film goer and film historian. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing this Australian writer, and the honor of reviewing his book, HELL HATH NO FURY: The Making of CHRISTINE, which I enjoyed very much.
In the 1970’s, science fiction was at the height of its popularity, and some of the most classic films in history were released during that decade. WESTWORLD, PLANT OF THE APES, THX-1138, LOGANS RUN, and SILENT RUNNING, were considered some of the greats. However, it wasn’t until 1977, when a little film called STAR WARS hit the box office , changing the genre completely, taking it in a new direction.
When you look back at some of the young and upcoming directors of the very early 1990’s, you’ll see names like Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Guillermo del Toro, just to name a few. However there is one more name to add to the list: Adam Marcus. He was born on July 24th of 1968, in Westport Connecticut, and was actually quite young when he began his career.
DEDICATION first appeared in the June 1988 anthology, Dark Visions. It was reprinted in Stephen King’s collection of short stories, NIGHTMARES & DREAMSCAPES. This story is about a Black woman who has left a very violent and senseless relationship, who goes to work at an exclusive hotel as a maid. It’s there a repeat guest, an alcoholic, but talented writer stays to do his writing. The maid finds him annoying and disgusting, yet a slow amicable relationship begins.
It’s amazing that the Stephen King Dollar Baby Program has been around for over 40 years! This program has helped so many up-and-coming filmmakers, not to just take their vision of a Stephen King story and put it on the big screen, but it has also opened many doors for them to bigger projects within the film industry.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME is the sequel, and “final” (?) film to the MARVEL Universe AVENGERS franchise. It’s also the 22nd film in the MARVEL Universe films. This is one of those releases that is so big, so important, and has been so anticipated, it makes it nearly impossible to review without revealing even the slightest events , but I will do my best to keep it spoiler free.
Stephen King is, without question, one of the greatest writers of our time, known around the world as the scariest storyteller of our age. You can read his books and get scared or enjoy a wonderful tale, but what about the man himself?
PERSPECTIVES OF STEPHEN KING is a collection of interviews that give many different aspects of Stephen King. The introduction at the beginning of the book was welcoming, friendly, and made you feel like you were about to go on a great ride.
There’s no doubt about it, it’s been a very long, cold winter. But here we are, Spring is finally upon us! The month of March doesn’t just usher in a new season, but also, March Madness for all you sports fans, Spring Break for students, and in our house we have a little tradition of our own this month, “March Musical Month!” We play our favorite musicals of all-time in March to bring good vibes for the up-coming season.
When we think of Stephen King, the universe he’s created, we think of his many novels, short stories, film adaptations, and the nightmares! There is so much more to the King Universe however, with all the merchandising, numerous fan pages, and the many appearances this author makes, people continue to just love…Stephen King!
