It’s that time of year again. Time to stay warm, wish for Spring, and pass the time with a good movie or book. However, there’s something else that happen’s this time of year that is quite the event. I’m talking about … the Oscars! That one night out of the year when we spend hours watching the Academy take note of the films of the past year that deserve that golden statue that is called, Oscar.
When I grew up in the 1980′s, I was raised on the “John Hughes’ Generation” of teenage films. Films like Sixteen Candles, ‘The Breakfast Club, Weird Science and Pretty in Pink. At times, it actually helped survive high school. Although I don’t think there is just one secret to that part of growing up, but sometimes films help.
Scanners, one of the most iconic horror films of the eighties from legendary director David Cronenberg (Cosmopolis, A History of Violence, The Fly), comes to Blu-ray for the first time in a highly collectable limited edition steelbook thanks to Second Sight Films.
With the New Year in full swing, so does a new batch of new films, Independent, Short, and Foreign. With a look ahead, 2013 looks to be a very big year for films and filmmakers. With that said, we have the latest news from director Davide Melini. Davide is an acclaimed director who in his early years worked with the great Dario Argento.
Nailgun released their aggressive and in the meantime melodic album, titled New world chaos for STF. Straight and aggressive, complex and catchy, including even balladic moments and groovy passages, New world chaos represents an album to be listened specially for Nevermore or EverGrey fans.
To celebrate 5 years, Scar for life released for free download a compilation titled Retrospective which contains 10 tracks + 1 new instrumental song. This piece (under the same name) was again written and mixed by Alexandre Santos, but this time drums were recorded at BandHouse Studios in UK by Rómulo Herédia behind the kit for the first time in SFL, guitarist virtuoso Neil Fraser (from Ten fame) and Sérgio Faria on guitar.
Bloody Night is a slasher film that has recently completed principal photography. This disturbing title has been shooting in Budapest, Hungary since January of 2013. And now, director Hakan Yildiz has released several photos from the shoot. Award nominee and writer Pau Masó is shown as one of several friends stalked by a mysterious killer. European based actor Anna Rust also appear in these stills.
